1. Be flexible with travel dates

The more flexible you are with your travel dates, the better chances you have of finding cheap fares. Flying on weekdays or during off-peak travel times often reflects in the price.

2. Use price comparison websites

When searching, comparison websites and apps can be helpful in finding deals and comparing flight prices. It's worth checking different platforms as prices may vary depending on the platform.

Here are some comparison portals you should check out:

3. Book early

Flight tickets are generally cheaper when booked further in advance. So, planning ahead pays off! We always book our tickets (if possible) approximately 6 months before the start of our journey.

4. Book airport parking in advance

Similarly to flights, parking at the airport should be booked as early as possible in advance. For example, if you're looking for parking at your nearest Airport, you can compare affordable offers on online comparison platform and book the right offer directly online.

5. Subscribe to newsletters for offers

Stay informed by subscribing to newsletters from airlines or offers from travel apps. This way, you'll stay up-to-date with prices and can take advantage of special deals as soon as they become available

6. Take advantage of discounts and offers

Sometimes credit card issuers or automobile clubs offer special promotions for their customers. It's worth checking these out and potentially booking through them.

7. Watch out for hidden fees

When booking, pay attention to any additional fees that may be charged, such as for checked baggage, seat reservation, or onboard services. The most affordable fares are often those where you can travel with only carry-on luggage and no checked baggage.

If we do have more luggage (for example, on longer trips to distant countries), then we usually only book one checked baggage per person if possible, as this usually suffices.

However, remember to add any necessary checked baggage in advance, as the cost increases the later you book. Additionally, book this online rather than at the airport, as you may incur higher fees there.

8. Choose a different airport

Sometimes it's worth considering flying from or returning to a different airport, even if it involves a slightly longer journey. For example, we always check prices for both Munich and Salzburg airports, as both are easily accessible for us.

9. Join frequent flyer programs

If you travel frequently, consider signing up for the frequent flyer programs offered by airlines to accumulate points or miles with your flights. You can later redeem these for free flights or upgrades.

Another opportunity you should make use of is a travle credit card. In this post, we'll reveal which credit card we use and how it helps us save money.

10. Book a package holiday

Often, package deals including flights, hotels, and transfers are cheaper than booking the components separately. So, if you're willing to sacrifice some flexibility during the trip or prefer booking everything in advance, there's great potential for significant savings!

11. Ask for upgrades at the counter

A polite inquiry costs nothing! Sometimes it's possible to get an upgrade at the check-in counter. The chances are particularly good when the flight isn't fully booked.
