1. History of Hohenzollern Castle

Hohenzollern Castle, majestically perched on a ridge in the Swabian Alps, isn't just a symbol of the power and influence of the House of Hohenzollern—it's also an architectural marvel. Its origins stretch back to the 11th century, but the grand structure we admire today was rebuilt in the 19th century under King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia. Since then, it's been a magnet for history buffs and architecture enthusiasts from all over the world, and it still serves as a residence for the Hohenzollern family.

2. The Location of the Castle

Imagine standing on a ridge, with panoramic views of rolling hills and, on clear days, the distant Alps. That's Hohenzollern Castle for you! Nestled near the town of Hechingen in the municipality of Bisingen, Baden-Württemberg, the castle is as accessible as it is picturesque. Whether you drive or take public transport, the journey to this stunning fortress is part of the adventure, with a direct road from Hechingen leading you right to the entrance.

3. Parking Facilities

Arriving by car? No problem! Ample parking is available at the base of the castle. From there, you can either embark on a scenic hike up to the castle or hop on a shuttle that regularly ferries visitors from the parking lot to the castle gates. Parking fees are reasonable and help preserve this historical treasure.

The closest parking lot, P1, is just a 25-minute walk from the castle—a perfect warm-up for the wonders that await.

4. Camping at Hohenzollern Castle

For those of us who love hitting the road in a motorhome, the area around Hohenzollern Castle offers some fantastic spots to park up. Nearby campsites and pitches provide breathtaking views of the castle and the surrounding landscape. To ensure a hassle-free stay, it's wise to check if reservations are needed, especially during peak times.

We even parked our camper directly at the castle's parking lot—an experience we highly recommend!
