Predjama Castle was first mentioned in historical records in the 13th century and is world-famous for being literally built into the rock. Its position offered the perfect strategic defense against attackers.

The most famous resident was Erazem of Predjama, a knight from the 15th century. According to legend, he withstood a months-long siege thanks to a secret tunnel that supplied him with food. His fate, however, was tragic – he was struck by a cannonball while using the toilet. Yes, you read that right!
