Your trip to Morocco is just around the corner, but you’re unsure what to bring? Whether you’re at the beach, venturing into the desert, or hiking the Atlas Mountains, our packing list has you prepared for every adventure and all seasons!
Table of Contents
1. Morocco Packing List: Important Travel Info
Before we dive into the packing list, we have some travel tips for your Morocco trip and packing essentials.
If you’re planning a road trip or desert adventure in addition to a beach holiday, make sure to bring warm clothing, as it can get cool in the desert at night. For a desert tour, we recommend light, breathable clothing and something warmer for the evenings, which can be chilly in the Sahara.
In Morocco, cash is also essential. You can exchange currency at the airport or withdraw it from ATMs using your credit card. Keep an eye on your valuables, though we always felt safe traveling in Morocco.
2. Morocco Packing List: Travel Documents and Money
The currency in Morocco is the Dirham (DH). Cash is often required for shopping in local markets or tipping. It’s a good idea to carry plenty of small bills.
Here’s what you should keep in your travel bag:
Passport or ID and a photocopy of your passport (store separately, like in a trekking backpack)
Wallet
Credit card
Health insurance card / travel insurance
Cash
International driver’s license (if you plan to rent a car)
Vaccination card (if needed)
Student ID (if applicable)
3. Morocco Packing List: Clothing
Since temperatures can drop in the evenings, even in warmer months, pack a mix of short and long clothing options to stay comfortable.
Optimalerweise hast du eine gute Mischung aus kurzen und langen Kleidungsstücken dabei, dann bist du für alle Eventualitäten gut vorbereitet:
Underwear (including sports bras)
Socks and hiking socks
Swimwear (bikini, swim trunks, etc.)
Pajamas
3-4 T-shirts
1-2 dresses
Thin long-sleeve shirt
1-2 shorts
Skirt (optional)
2 long pants
Sportswear
Dressier outfit (like a dress or button-down shirt)
Cardigan
Rain jacket
Hat
4. Morocco Packing List: Shoes
Shoes can take up a lot of space and add extra weight, so think carefully about the activities you’re planning and which shoes you’ll actually need. Ideally, make sure your shoes are already broken in to prevent blisters.
Sneakers
Flip-flops, slides, or other beach shoes
Optional: ballet flats
Optional: hiking boots
5. Morocco Packing List: Toiletries
We prioritize toiletries that are compact, lightweight, and have minimal (plastic) packaging. Here are the essential items that shouldn’t be missing from your Morocco travel bag:
Toiletry bag
Shampoo, shower gel, and conditioner
Deodorant
Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss
Cotton swabs
Nail care kit
Hairbrush or comb
Hair ties
Makeup
Lip balm
Razor
Tweezers
Tampons and sanitary pads
Face cream
Body lotion
Tissues
6. Morocco Packing List: Travel Pharmacy
For your Morocco trip, it’s essential to think ahead about your travel pharmacy. Stomach issues can be common, so having basic medical supplies is very helpful. And don’t forget sunscreen and a hat to protect against the sun.
Perenterol (for mild diarrhea)
Imodium (for severe diarrhea)
Travel meds (for diarrhea & vomiting)
Vomex (for nausea, useful for boat trips if you get seasick)
Pain relievers (e.g., Ibuprofen)
Thermometer
Throat lozenges
Antiseptic spray
Band-Aids
Blister patches
Bandages
Healing ointment (e.g., Bepanthen)
Pain relief gel (e.g., Voltaren)
Tweezers
UV protection: waterproof sunscreen (our top choice is non-sticky, quick-drying, and cooling)
7. Camera Gear & Tech for Morocco
Capture your dream vacation in Morocco with all your camera gear! Here’s everything you’ll need, along with any other tech essentials for the trip:
Camera (including lenses, batteries, filters)
Drone (with spare batteries)
Laptop
Smartphone
Chargers (for phone, camera, drone, laptop)
Headphones
SD cards
E-reader (optional)
8. Morocco Packing List: Additional Essentials
Here are some other essentials that are easy to forget but are very handy to have on hand:
Sunglasses
Hat or other head covering
Small combination lock for backpack security
Snorkel gear (optional)
Backpack cover for flights
Lightweight sleeping bag (if you’d prefer not to use hostel bedding)
9. Hand Luggage for Your Morocco Trip
For your hand luggage, we recommend taking a daypack instead of a travel bag or small suitcase. A daypack can be reused for day trips throughout your journey.
Pack all essential items you’ll want easy access to in your hand luggage (ID, credit card, cash, phone, insurance cards, flight tickets, camera, sunglasses, etc.), as well as items to make the flight more comfortable (book, small pillow, sleep mask, earplugs, etc.).
Additionally, use your hand luggage for items that didn’t fit in your suitcase or backpack, as long as they comply with carry-on restrictions.
Of course, you can also travel with hand luggage only. We’ve created a separate packing list to ensure you won’t forget anything if you go this route.
10. Securing and Tracking Your (Hand) Luggage
You might remember the traditional luggage tags where you’d write your name and address in case your luggage got lost. Today, it’s much easier with QR codes that can be attached to your luggage and scanned if needed.
The advantage is that your name and address are not publicly visible, allowing people to contact you anonymously if they find your items.
You can also use these QR code stickers on other valuable items (like AirPods, for instance).
