Biogradska Gora National Park Jezero: Journey to One of Europe’s Last Primeval Forests
We arrived at the national park in the early afternoon. The drive itself was already spectacular—winding roads through densely forested mountain slopes led us to the park entrance. Biogradska Gora is one of Montenegro’s oldest national parks, famous for its ancient forests, mountain peaks, and of course, the stunning Biogradsko Lake, which glistens like a jewel in the heart of the park.

We spent the night directly at the national park campsite. It’s well-equipped with clean sanitary facilities and small fire pits, which instantly made us feel connected to nature.
Activities & Hiking in the World’s Second-Oldest Nature Reserve
There are plenty of small hikes to choose from within the park. We opted for the scenic 3.5 km trail around Biogradsko Lake.

The trail is easy to walk and offers countless opportunities to admire the rich flora and fauna. Towering moss-covered trees, sparkling streams, and colorful birds flitting through the branches make this a truly magical place. The lake itself is incredibly calm, reflecting the surrounding mountains and forests like a perfect mirror.
For those looking for more of a challenge, there are also longer and more demanding hiking routes. One of the most popular trails leads to viewpoints with spectacular panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
You can also rent a paddle boat and explore the lake from the water or hire a mountain bike to venture deeper into the park.
